I' ve been talking recently somewhere else with someone with a FPL claim, that' s what motivated me to do this thread. It' s not directed towards anyone here, and when I post things like this I usually tell the truth in (what in my opinion) is a funny sarcastic way, so nobody get offended, it' s not my intention.
Stage 1: DO I HAVE A FAMOUS PAST LIFE?: You had a few memories and you already have the name of who you think you were, however, if you are smart and not a troll you know better than to just say "I was Elvis Presley" because you know you will be considered crazy. You don' t believe yourself enough so you seek approval in others. What you don' t know yet is "Who cares what others think?" In my experience you only need a few specific people to believe you, the rest doesn' t matter if they believe you or not. However, in this stage you probably want everyone to believe you, so you just throw hints without throwing a name, things like "I think my name was Aaron and I remember being a musician" "I think I died in the late 70' s" "I remember driving a truck" "I was from the South of the US". With these hints you expect other people to say "OMG, maybe you were Elvis!! " and then you act all humble "Oh, maybe I was, dunno, could be".
How does this stage end? Four options
Option 1: people play stupid and don' t say anything: if you are a troll or not too smart you get all annoyed and you post "I think I was Elvis" along with several picture comparisons including a few of you with a tassels outfit. At this point you lost them and you are labelled as a troll or wannabe-boy
Option 2: people play stupid and don' t say anything: you chill and you post in other threads, maybe throwing a few stuff here and there but nothing major. Probably the smartest decision.
Option 3: People know what you' re up to and fuck around with you: It doesn' t really happen too often actually, but I know I do it if I' m annoyed at the claim and I know Will used to do it all the time as well. You are asked a lot of tricky questions designed to make you fail "Oh really, you were Eichmann? well, tell me about Buenos Aires, what do you remember? You don' t remember anything? just being a badass Nazi in Germany? nothing about the last 10 years of your life? nothing about being captured and trialed? what a pity". After that, if you are the real deal or you are willing to admit you were wrong, you stay, if you are a fake or you are not willing to admit that you were wrong, you leave.
Option 4: People totally believe you : pretty much the whole "maybe you were Elvis" example
After this first thing, either you stay or you leave reincarnation forever. If you stay...
Stage 2: MOVING ON FROM FPL: whatever happened in stage 1, there is nothing else to say, so you move on to other things. You still don't feel too cool maybe posting images of Elvis as your userpic but you get more and more comfortable with the idea. You have more memories that you might post or not post. You talk about other things besides yourself (or at least YOU SHOULD). You help other members, you think about life and death. You just act normal, after all, it' s how you should act and how you would have acted if you were John the farmer.
Stage 3: COMING OUT: you are tired that John the farmer can openly talk about his life and you are all weird about it, so you just think "Fuck it" and you come out. At this point, people already know you, so the ones who will believe you will do it and the ones who don' t won' t, in my experience, most people do. You might do this maybe just posting your memories or saying it openly along with the reasons of how you reached that conclusion.
Stage 4: CLINT EASTWOOD ASSHOLE COWBOY PHASE: You feel confident enough to not care what other people think because you already have enough validations and things going on. You can throw your Pl name here and there without even providing the memories to go along with and make your claim comprehensive to people. After all, you don' t care anymore if they believe you or not. At the beginning, if they don' t believe you, you think you are wrong, at this stage, if they don' t believe you, you just think they are stupid. You realize that the whole big deal about FPLs is just bullshit and that they are just like any other life, with the benefit of having tons of info to make validations easier.
